Saturday 24 September heralded a bright sunny day with azure blue skies and it also brought six coaches full of Leicestershire Guides, Rangers and their Leaders to the east coastal seaside resort of Hunstanton; known to many as ‘Sunny Hunny’!
These 300 Guides or so were on a mission – they were taking part in a beach clean as part of The Marine Conservation Society’s annual clean-up of our British beaches. Hunstanton County Council were keen to get involved and they provided free use of litter grabbers, bin liners and holders and they also provided free parking for all of our six coaches for the day.
The Guides went off in their groups and each group picked a 100m stretch of beach. Altogether they cleaned approximately 800-1000m and collected 27kilos of rubbish! Unfortunately, the rain clouds started gathering and down the rain came which put a stop to the later part of the afternoon beach clean.
The Guides also paid a visit to the magnificent Sealife Centre, the fairground, amusements and went on an amble around the town.
A wonderful day was had by all and we had really good feed back from the general public about what the Guides were doing, they thought they were brilliant!
